So you want to start a blog and become a blogger? I recommend you don’t use any service that forces you to have a domain like yourblog.wordpress.com - but rather, strongly encourage you to buy your own domain and set up web hosting for your blog. It’s very affordable, around $10 per month - and you have complete control over your blog.

Umm? Pardon me? Of course you have complete control, when you set up your own blog, but you also have complete responsibility. You have to take care of updating you blog, of keeping the server up (if it's not a virtualized server), securing the server, backups, etc.

I did that myself in the past, but after a time it can become bothersome. Besides 10$/month or nothing (as with wordpress.com) is quite a big difference. (120$ a year for example?)

You can make money on your blog more than $300 per month. But if you dont want make money on blog then you not need a special hosting.
